The Soundscapes
- As a musician, Tim began his career teaching public school in Merrill MI upon graduation from the University of Michigan, just west of Saginaw in the middle of the mitten. During this time, he was the one of the founding members of the Prism Quartet, dividing his time between teaching and performing. After a time, Tim moved back to the Ann Arbor area to take a position at Eastern Michigan University teaching saxophone. This enabled his performing with Prism to continue. It was during this time that Prism explored the new field of the EWI (Electronic Wind Controller), essentially a wind keyboard, that allows a wind musician access to the synthesizer. It was this time that hooked Tim into the freedom of sonic creation that working electronically allows. His electronic music uses the Digital Audio Workstation Reason, focusing on the nuance of electronic timbres that are brought alive with the expressive control of the EWI. His music is improvisatory and deeply rooted in textures, timbres, and rhythmic motion.
The Astrophotos
- Tim has been a lifelong admirer of the cosmos. After his retirement from 38 years in the classroom, he has continued his passion for the night sky by capturing the deep space wonders that were only previously viewed through the eyepiece of a telescope. Tim finds solace in sitting under the stars during warmer summer months, and brims with anticipation while darting in and out of the house to check the equipment during the winter. To him, capturing images of the night sky, blends the intrinsic beauty and awe of these objects with science, as we discover a deeper understanding of our place in the cosmos and how it came to be.
